Physical training for tennis players in Barcelona

Tennis asks for explosive movement in every direction, fast deceleration, and rotational power, repeated for hours, week after week. Physical Preparation is built around those specific demands, not a generic gym program adapted for tennis players.

Most tennis players spend almost all their training time on technique and almost none on the physical qualities that technique depends on. Explosive first steps, a stable base to serve from, the rotational power behind a real forehand, and the ability to hold form late in a long match all come from physical preparation, not from more strokes on court.

This runs alongside your existing coaching, not instead of it, built and adjusted week to week around the individual athlete rather than a fixed program everyone follows the same way.

Who this is for

Players training and competing often enough that the physical side matters

Competitive

Tournament & competitive players

Building the durability to hold form through a long match and back up a strong result the following week.

Junior

Developing juniors

Building the athletic foundation underneath a growing technical game, at an age where that foundation actually gets built.

Resilience

Players building injury resilience

Proactive work on the areas that break down first under repeated load, before they become a reason to stop playing.

Why this exists

Built on sports science, not habit.

Pavel is a PhD Candidate in Sports Sciences at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, and that research background shapes how this program is built: what the current evidence actually says about tennis-specific physical development, not what has always been done.

The result is training that looks like tennis, not a generic strength program borrowed from another sport and relabeled.

  • Movement qualityThe ranges of motion and control tennis actually asks the body to produce
  • Strength & powerForce production behind an explosive first step and a heavy serve
  • Tennis-specific conditioningShort, repeated efforts with real recovery, matching how a match actually unfolds

How the training actually gets built

Not a fixed script followed regardless of circumstance. The mix shifts week to week based on the calendar, the season, and how the athlete is responding.

01

Movement & mobility

The foundation every week starts from: the ranges of motion tennis actually requires.

02

Strength & power

Building the force production behind an explosive first step and a stable base to hit from.

03

Tennis-specific conditioning

Short, repeated efforts with real recovery in between, the pattern a match actually demands.

04

Recovery & monitoring

Tracking how the athlete is responding and adjusting the following week's work accordingly.

About Physical Preparation

Alongside it. This runs in addition to Group Classes, Private Coaching, or Pro Coaching, it does not replace on-court technical work.

Serve Proof is a self-paced online program focused specifically on the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and lower back for serving. Physical Preparation is in-person, ongoing, and covers the full athletic picture, not just what supports the serve.

No. Sessions are built around where the individual athlete is actually starting from, not a set assumed baseline.

This is built as ongoing, weekly work rather than a one-off session. Message us with your schedule and current training load and we will put together a plan.

No, though it matters most for players training or competing frequently. Any junior or adult already working seriously on their tennis is a fit.
